CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co., Ltd. is the main production base of electric locomotives in China and the national designated enterprise of mass transit vehicles localization. It is also one of Hunan Top Ten Landmark Enterprises and key enterprise of Zhuzhou 5115 Project. The main products of the company include locomotives and mass transit vehicles. Meanwhile, it endeavors to develop the emerging industries such as rail engineering vehicles, electrical equipment and braking systems.
CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co., Ltd. was founded in 1936. It successfully developed the first mainline electric locomotive for China in 1958 and became China's first professional electric locomotives manufacturer in 1978. In 2001, the company was approved as the national designated enterprise of mass transit vehicles localization. In 2005, the whole enterprise was reformed to be a limited liability company. The company is one of the core enterprises of CSR (601766), having 3.474 billion Yuan of registered capital and over 8,500 employees, headquarter of which occupying an area of 2.1 square kilometer. Since the foundation of the People’s Republic of China, the company has maintained continuous profitability. Since 2005, the sales revenue has increased by 46% annually. In 2010, the company achieved the sales revenue of 16 billion and the profit and tax of more than 1 billion.
Electric locomotive industry From the beginning of China’s reform and opening up to now, the company has been constantly improving the ability of independent innovation and has developed 34 types of mainline locomotives for rapid passenger transit, dual purpose transport, heavy-haul freight transport and so on. It developed successfully a new generation of AC drive electric locomotive and high speed passenger EMU, with full intellectual propriety rights. Especially since 2004, the company took the lead in introduction of eight-axle high-power AC drive electric locomotives, based on which the company independently developed two types of six-axle high-power AC drive electric locomotives --- 9600kW and 7200kW of Harmony Type, leading China’s electric locomotives from DC drive era to AC drive era, and strongly promoting the development of China’s electric locomotives. So far, the company has produced nearly 5,000 different kinds of electric locomotives and occupied about 50% of national railway market, maintaining a leading position of China’s electric locomotive industry and enjoying the reputation of “the capital of China’s electric locomotives”.
Mass transit vehicle industry 2001, the company was approved as the national designated enterprise of mass transit vehicles localization. Under the national industrial policy and through the cooperation with Siemens, the company implemented the “seamless connection” of the manufacturing platform of mass transit vehicles with international standard in a relatively short period. In 2004, the first metro train for Shanghai Pearl Line Phase Ⅱsuccessfully rolled off the production line. In 2008, China’s first independently-industrialized high-grade A-type metro train for Shenzhen Metro Line 1 (continuing) was inaugurated, which was developed and manufactured independently and put into mass production. It indicates that the company has the capacity of bidding, designing, purchasing, manufacturing and controlling independently in the field of mass transit vehicles industry. As of now, the company has won the orders of supplying totally over 4000 vehicles for 23 projects from Guangzhou, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Wuhan, Ningbo, Zhengzhou, Kunming and Changsha, with the total contract value of nearly 22 billion yuan. The company is an outstanding representative in China' high-end mass transit equipment field. The company also strives to improve the regional distribution for production and repair of mass transit industry in China, and has built production and repair bases of mass transit vehicles in Guangzhou, Luoyang, Kunming, Ningbo and so on.
Overseas market exploration While based upon domestic market, the company attaches great importance to exploring the international market. The company is China’s first and only enterprise exporting the entire electric locomotives until now. Since the export of electric locomotives to Iran in 2007, the company has obtained over 130 orders of electric locomotives from Iran, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan and other countries. In 2009, the company got the orders of supplying 14 battery electric locomotives to Singapore and 32 light rail vehicles to Turkey Izmir, and became China’s first enterprise to export whole vehicle to developed countries and Europe. In 2010, the company achieved the breakthrough of metro vehicles and EMUs in the international market, through exporting them to India and Malaysia respectively. Up to now, the company received export orders of more than 8 billion yuan, and becomes a new model of "going global" among Hunan industry enterprises and participating in international market competition.

CSR is a limited liability company promoted by CSR Corporation in association with Beijing Railway Industry Economic and Trade Company with the approval of the State Council and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council SASAC. Founded on December 28, 2007, headquartered in Beijing, with a registered capital of 11.84 billion yuan, CSR went public in Shanghai and Hong Kong in August 2008, has established 17 wholly-owned and shareholding subsidiaries in 10 provinces and cities, and has nearly 90,000 employees.

CSR is an “innovative enterprise” accredited by the Ministry of Science and Technology, SASAC and All China Federation of Trade Unions. It owns four national R & D and experiment institutions including national engineering center of converting technology, national engineering laboratory of high-speed train system integration, national key laboratory of EMU and locomotive traction and control and national research center of high-speed EMU assembly engineering technology, six national nationally accredited corporate technical centers, seven test and experimental centers accredited by China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment and six postdoctoral workstations, has established the first overseas industrial power and electronic R & D center of China’s rail transit equipment manufacturing in the U.S. and a semiconductor R & D centers in the UK. CSR’s technical R & D and manufacturing level has been up to advanced world standards, with its major products developing towards the technical objectives of “advancement, maturity, economy, applicability and reliability”, meeting the need of China’s rail transportation and accomplishing batch export. Currently, an array of CSR’s independently developed high-performance products and technologies, represented by bullet trains and large-power locomotives, have been up to advanced international standards, and CSR’s comprehensive strength has been in the forefront of world rail transit equipment manufacturing.
