After the heat transfer plates are assembled together, many flow channels are formed inside the heat exchanger. When the heat transfer plates are combined in parallel, a flow channel is formed between every two heat transfer plates. The cold and hot medium follow a parallel process, where the cold and hot flow alternately through the heat transfer plates. At the same time, heat is transferred from the hot medium to the cold.
